Pinus contorta ‘chief joseph’
This lodgepole pine is very unique in both its growth
rate, about half as fast as the species, and its color, which in winter is
strikingly bright yellow. In the Northwest it seems to suffer tip burn during
the winter when it is not grafted onto Pinus contorta. (3)

Pinus contorta ‘frisian gold’
This selection from the shore pine was made by zu
Jeddeloh from a golden witches’ broom/sport. It slowly develops into a broad
bush with bright yellow foliage throughout the year. I have seen some plants
develop a terminal shoot and grow upward at a rapid rate. (7)

This miniature selection from the late Edsal Wood was at
first thought to be a mugo pine but with densiflora characteristics. It

PINUS MUGO ‘CARSTEN’S WINTERGOLD’
Bob first saw this plant while visiting a friend during one winter. It stood out
like a beacon in his garden. The winter color is such an intense orange-gold
that very few plants can even compete. In addition, it is reliably dwarf,
developing into a small, dense globe. It grows about 2" per year on its fastest

The variegation of its foliage makes this upright bush a
